The maximum at which a person can expire at is measured by using a peak flow meter. A very small piece of equipment which will measure the amount of obstruction within the body and therefore be able to calculate the lung volume and the maximum expiration. To complete the test, put the peak flow meter in your mouth and take your deepest possible breath and then blow into the meter as hard and as fast as possible without covering the hole with your tongue. Complete this test three to five times, making sure that you reset the meter to zero each time. Find an average from the scores to post as your final score. If you cough during the test ensure that you restart.
Advantages
The meter itself is very cheap to get and very easy to acquire due to its helpful nature for asthmatics. Also the meter is very small and portable so the test can be completed anywhere with no hassle.
Disadvantages
There are much more accurate ways to find your lung volume out compared to using the peak flow meter, which can be quite unreliable.
